KIA Ceed

Audi A4

The Kia Ceed is a popular family hatchback that competes with the likes of the Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus and Honda Civic.

The Ceed was originally launched in 2006 as the Cee’d and has seen changes to both its design and name over the years. The apostrophe was dropped from the name with the introduction of the third generation in 2018, which also came with a sharper, sleeker exterior design, daytime running lights and a more comfortable interior with more headroom for passengers.

The Ceed has won a number of industry awards, including a Red Dot Award for design and the Driving Instructors Car of the Year, which is testament to how easy the Ceed is to drive. The Ceed has proven popular with UK consumers as well, with more than 115,000 currently registered across the country.

The popularity of the model across Europe has paved the way for Kia to create a ‘Ceed Family’ which includes the standard Ceed family hatchback, the Ceed Sportswagon Estate, the more sophisticated ProCeed and the crossover XCeed.

The standard Kia Ceed has seen a reduction in engine options in the third generation, with a single 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol engine available in both manual and automatic transmissions.

There are four trims available in the Ceed, but even the entry level Ceed 2 trim comes with impressive features like cruise control, collision avoidance system, reversing camera and an 8 inch touchscreen infotainment system that has compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Additional technology and comfort features are available in the GT Line, Ceed 3 and GT Line S trims.

The interior of the Ceed has seen significant improvements in the latest generation, but still doesn’t feel as upmarket as some competitors in the family hatchback category. But it’s comfortable and practical, and has enough space for the needs of most families – although if you’re regularly going to be carrying adult passengers you might want to consider something a little more spacious like the Kia Sportage. For those interested in boot space, the Ceed has 395 litres of capacity as standard, which can be increased to 1291 litres if you fold the rear seats down.

From a safety point of view, even entry level trims have impressive safety features and the 2019 Euro NCAP test awarded the Kia Ceed a four-star safety rating.

Overall, the Kia Ceed is a comfortable, well equipped family hatchback that’s worth considering if you’re looking for an easy to drive, affordable car with a range of modern features
