The engine options for the Picanto are quite straightforward, with drivers being able to choose from two 1.0 litre engines – an entry level 67 hp engine and a turbocharged 99 hp engine. The average reported fuel consumption for the non-turbocharged engine is 58.9 mpg, which makes the Picanto an affordable car to run for those keeping their eye on fuel costs.

In terms of trims, there are a wide range of options to choose from. The entry level Picanto 1 provides an affordable option for anyone that is looking for a no-frills city runaround. Additional technology and comfort upgrades are available in the Picanto 2, Picanto 3, X Line S, GT Line, and top spec GT Line S – which comes with alloy wheels, sports bumper, cruise control, 8 inch infotainment system with sat nav, heated front seats, rear parking sensors and wireless phone charger.

Inside, the Kia Picanto is surprisingly comfortable for a car of its size, although some critics might argue that lower specification trims are limited in terms of seat adjustment options. Boot space is modest with a 255 litre capacity, but that’s to be expected in a city car and it actually beats other competitors in the category.

From a safety perspective, the Picanto scored a three-star rating in Euro NCAP tests, rising to four stars if the car is fitted with a brake assist system. All new Kia Picantos are now fitted with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Brake Assist as standard, but it’s something to bear in mind if you’re looking at a used Picanto.

Overall, the Picanto is a strong contender in the city car category and is definitely worth considering if you’re looking for a car to manage regular trips in busy town and city traffic
