Peugeot 208

Audi A4

The Peugeot 208 is an impressive small family hatchback that competes with the likes of the Ford Fiesta, Volkswagen Polo and Renault Clio.

Initially launched in 2012, the Peugeot 208 introduced its second generation in 2019 which saw a reduction in weight, redesigned exterior, and an improvement in interior styling and comfort.

The new generation of 208 is available with a choice of petrol, diesel or electric engine. For those looking at petrol engines, there are three 1.2 litre engines to choose from – a 75hp engine, a mid range 100hp engine, and a more powerful 130hp model. If you’re looking for the efficiency of a diesel engine, you have the option of a 1.5 litre BlueHDi motor with 100hp. And if you’re looking to join the electric vehicle revolution, the fully electric e-208 has a range of 224 miles on a full charge.

In terms of trim levels, there are currently three options, starting with the Active Premium+ which comes with air conditioning, rear parking sensors and automatic lights and wipers. Take a step up to the Allure Premium+ and the digital cockpit is introduced, with a reversing camera also included. At the top of the range is the Peugeot 208 GT, which has LED headlights, front parking sensors and interior ambient lighting.

The Peugeot 208 has received largely favourable reviews from the industry, winning Carwow’s “Little Legend” award in 2019, and also being awarded the prestigious European Car of the Year Award in 2020.

Online reviews typically praise the quiet, comfortable ride of the 208, and the quality of finish of the interior – which even on entry level trims outstrips the competition. However, some critics also point out the slightly cramped rear passenger space, which is something to be aware of if you’re regularly going to be carrying adult passengers.

In terms of technology, the Peugeot 208 comes with a full colour 7-inch infotainment system as standard which has full compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There’s the option to upgrade to a larger 10-inch display with sat nav on higher specification trims.

The 208 comes with a range of safety features as standard, including cruise control, speed limit recognition and autonomous emergency braking and receives a respectable four-star Euro NCAP safety rating.

Overall, the Peugeot 208 is a great car to consider if you’re looking for a small family hatchback with impressive interior styling that comes with a range of engine options
