Volkswagen T-Roc

The People’s Car

Volkswagen

The Volkswagen T-Roc is a small crossover SUV that competes with vehicles like the Ford Puma, SEAT Arona, and Skoda Kamiq. It combines the manoeuvrability and ease of handling of a smaller car (it’s actually based on the VW Golf) with a higher driving position and more interior space.

This makes the VW T-Roc an ideal choice for families looking for something practical with a spacious interior and reasonable running costs, or anyone who prefers a more commanding view of the road than can be achieved with some of Volkswagen’s smaller models.

Since its launch in 2017, the T-Roc has been a popular model for Volkswagen – selling more than a million units worldwide, with almost 50,000 currently registered in the UK.

Although it’s still officially in its first generation, VW gave the T-Roc a facelift in 2022, making some design changes to the exterior and improving the quality and functionality of the interior cabin. These updates have been well received across the industry, leading to the VW T-Roc receiving a number of awards in the competitive crossover SUV category, including Small SUV of the Year in 2023 from What Car?

In terms of engine options, the T-Roc is available with a range of petrol and diesel engines. For those looking for the punch of a petrol engine, there is a 1.0 litre engine that delivers a reasonable 47 mpg, a 1.5 litre mid-range option and the 2.0 litre engine of the T-Roc R which can deliver a lot more power at the expense of fuel economy, delivering 33 mpg. For those looking for the efficiency of diesel for longer drives, two variations of a 2.0 litre diesel engine are available at 115hp and 150hp.

After the 2022 facelift, all trim levels are impressive inside, from the entry level T-Roc Style to the top spec T-Roc R. The interior is spacious, with ample legroom and headroom for all passengers, and a boot capacity of 445 litres. Digital instrument dials are there as standard along with an infotainment system that has compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

From a safety perspective, the T-Roc ticks all the boxes with a five-star NCAP safety rating and a wide range of features fitted as standard, including autonomous emergency braking, driver fatigue warnings and adaptive cruise control.

In summary, the Volkswagen T-Roc is a safe, reliable, award winning small SUV that offers a comfortable and refined driving experience for families and those who want a higher driving position on the road
